Page 3 of 3 Leadership, however, requires more than that. What I have stated so far is not enough to fill the concept with meaning. Young people must have well development analytical capabilities and strategic skills to set priorities. The leader must be able to adequately plan the attainment of goals, to motivate his/her team, to test and apply ideas. True enough, entrepreneurs also need such practical skills, but in leaders these must be streamlined and applied on a broader social scale, affecting much more people. In this respect, young people can especially benefit from active formal and informal communication and interaction among young leaders from different countries and cultures and different fields. It is advisable to establish a network of contacts necessary for solving local, national and even global problems. Organization and participation in discussions, for instance, assists the accumulation of experience and the development of leadership skills. Bulgaria’s EU membership has provided young Bulgarian people with the above opportunities. Now people can travel, study, work as an intern or regular employee in European countries. Young people in Bulgaria can now enjoy many new possibilities for exchanging experience and working on different projects – something which generations before you have never enjoyed. Participation in youth programs in Bulgaria and the EU programs “Young People in Local Government” “Youth Activities 2006-2007,” and “The Young in Action 2007-2013” has also had a positive effect. Accomplished goals contribute to self-confidence and boost motivation for active civic involvement. As a result, being a convinced liberal, I will voice my personal conviction that inquisitive, hard-working and consistent young people can find personal satisfaction in policy-making, since this can bring a balance between collective work in the benefit of society, and the personality and personal development. As young people will be the ones to build Europe of the third millennium, I would like to wish you: Be daring and achieve your dreams in politics! New policy awaits its new leaders!
