As we all know, 2007 was declared European Year of Equal Possibilities for everyone. Within this year, we devote our attention to this subject and to the benefits of social diversity for Europe. Some of the initiatives organized by me as an MEP are in absolute conformity with this idea. For instance, Bulgaria is currently implementing a project titled “Equal Chance” for entrepreneurial training of young people with little or no access to information due to their remote places of residence. Today’s seminar is part of the events governed by the equal possibilities initiative. It is being held during the two-day visit of young liberals from Bulgaria and through it we, the MEP present, unequivocally show that young Bulgarians already enjoy the opportunities enjoyed by any European citizen. The activities undertaken during the Year of Equal Possibilities are mainly aimed at eliminating conditions for and effects of discrimination, as well as supporting people who have not encountered such problems but have difficulty implementing their higher potential. In this category I include the educated, inquisitive, socially active young politicians, i.e., people like you. Young people from Bulgaria, which has recently joined the EU, also need possibilities for enriching their knowledge, expanding their horizon so as to become part of European politics and the work of united Europe. I am positive that, given this chance, you will join the ranks of those working for the idea of equal opportunities for all.
