A seminar entitled “New Leaders, New Policy” initiated by Bulgarian MEP Filiz Hyusmenova took place in the European Parliament on September 12 2007. Mr. Graham Watson, chairman of the group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), was co-organizer of the event. Young liberals from Bulgaria took part in the seminar which was held during their two-day visit to the EP. The young people were invited by MEP Filiz Hyusmenova to visit the institution and acquaint themselves with its work. The “New Leaders, New Policy” seminar dealt with present-day challenges to politics determined by the changing world reality. Mr. Watson spoke about liberalism as an answer to the challenges of globalizations. MEP Andrew Duff also took part in the forum. His talk was on the expansion of the European Union and the lessons to be learned from this process, and on some aspects of the renewed constitution discussion. The third part of the seminar was devoted to the equal possibilities of young people in the European Union and the process of formation of new leaders. Filiz Hyusmenova made the presentation. The seminar was organized through an ALDE-supported project of F. Hyusmenova as part of her work related to the European Year of Equal Possibilities.
