Bulgarian MEPs Call an International Seminar in Brussels
How nature benefits from the new technologies

The four Bulgarian MEPs elected under the MRF list – Prof. Vladko Panayotov, Filiz Hyusmenova, Metin Kazak, Mariela Baeva, and theur colleagues from the Liberal Alliance, Vitorio Prodi and Jorgo Chatzimarkakis call a working discussion on November 28, 2007,

from 5 p.m. at the European Parliament building in Brussels. About 200 scientists and representatives of the industry from Germany, Italy, Finland, USA, Canada, Russia, Bulgaria, Turkey, etc., are invited to listen and share their opinion on the topic of ‘New Technologies for Clean Nature.’ The Seminar will be opened by the leader of the Political Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, Graham Watson.
Speeches are also envisaged by several Bulgarian ministers from the government of Sergei Stanishev, as well as by Prof. Herman Vortuba from the Technical University of Rhine and Westfalia, Acad. Valentin Chanturia from the Russian Academy of Sciences, Prof. James Hendrix from the Lincoln University of Nebraska, Reyner Imhoff, Chairman of the German Mining Association, etc.
They are discussing ways to establish a pilot research laboratory that would analyze samples of industrial waste from depositories and waste disposal sites all over the world, and would recommend which ones could be used through recycling and how could overloading be avoided.
Among the goals of the working meeting is also to identify the optimum usefulness of the Black Sea Technological Complex, whose construction will start in Bulgaria next year. Target funding has already been ensured for the complex from the European budget for 2008 under the Black Sea Cooperation item. The funding could reach an amount of up to 230 million Euro, which was allocated through an explicit amendment to the Community’s financial framework, following submission and justification in a debate made by the Bulgarian MEP Prof. Vladko Panayotov.
The last approval of the budget by the European Parliament is expected in December in Strasbourg, and its implementation begins as of January 1, 2008, under the control of the European Commission. It was exactly in April 2007 when the EC announced its new initiative ro regional cooperation aimed at stimulating the energetics, transport, technologies, research and environment protection.
The designed center in Bulgaria for hi-tech cooperation within the Black Sea region is expected to undertake more than just monitoring over the preservation of clean nature by energetic routes and other industries.
The option is being discussed of including within the same complex a service specialized in cleaning marine and river aquatories from pollution resulting from accidents or uncontrolled industrial spills.
The petrol spots and the danger from ecological breakdown following the recent storms in the Rerch bay are yet another argument in support of the significance of this initiative of our MEPs.
‘This is not the first time Bulgaria sets a good example for a successful regional policy, that also carries concrete benefits for the Bulgarian electorate,’ – highlighted the MEP Filiz Hyusmenova. ‘Of course, this pilot technological complex for the Black Sea Region will also create new jobs for qualified staff.’
