Filiz Hyusmenova Raised before the European Commission Questions regarding the Disabled Children... |
|
The MEP Filiz Hyusmenova raised questions about disabled children in specialized institutions before the European Commission. The mandate of an MEP comprises their right to ask questions and to receive responses by the Commission.
Knowing the European regulations in the field of the rights of disabled people, and recognizing the problems in many of the Member States, Hyusmenova asked the Commission to clarify whether the European Union strategy towards the disabled people envisages cooperation between the Commission and the Member States yowards resolving the problems of disabled children in specialized institutions. “If such cooperation already exists, what effect did it have?” asked our MEP. Filiz Hyusmenova raised those issues since an European strategy is being elaborated on the quality of social services of common benefit, and this strategy could be designed to comprise particular criteria and quality indicators for the care of disabled children in specialized institutions. With regard to this, another question raised by Ms. Hyusmenova was whether the Commission envisages such criteria and indicators to be included in the strategy. Ms. Hyusmenova also asked about the opinion of the Commission on the need for a common European Union policy on the deinstitutionalization of the disabled children. The MEP used her questions to the European Commission to draw its attention and to provoke the inclusion in the EU documents of specific texts in favor of the disabled children in specialized institutions.
