In 2007 Filiz Hyusmenova was the leader of the national list of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms in the elections for the European Parliament and in her capacity of a leader, she became a Member of the European Parliament, elected with the highest preferential vote. At the European Parliament, she is a member of the Political Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe /ALDE/. Bulgaria
 During the parliamentary elections for members of the 40th National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria in 2005, Filiz Hyusmenova was the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms list in Silistra Municipality and subsequently became a parliament member from the 20th Silistra multi-mandate election region. She worked as a member of the European Integration Committee and the Policy on Natural Disasters and Accidents Committee. Since 2006 she has also been acting as Observer in the European Parliament group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and in the European Parliament Committee on Regional Development (REGI). Her activity as a national parliament member ended in 2007, when she was elected for Member of the European Parliament. Movement for Rights and Freedoms

Filiz Hyusmenova has been a member of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) since 1994. She was a member of the management of the MRF Municipal Organization in Silistra and the MRF Municipal Council in Silistra region. Since 2003 she has been a member of the Central Council of MRF, and in 2006 became a member of the Central Operational Bureau of the Movement. In 2005 Mrs. Hyusmenova was the leader of the MRF list in Silistra Municipality and after the elections she became a Parliament Member from the 20th Multi-mandate Election Region of Silistra. Within the MRF, she is responsible for the public relations. In 2007 Filiz Hyusmenova was the leader of the national list of MRF in the elections for the European Parliament and in her capacity of a leader, she became a Member of the European Parliament, elected with the highest preferential vote. At the European Parliament, she is a member of the Political Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE).
